Riviera del Brenta

Cycling through Venetian secrets

The facades along the Riviera del Brenta are impeccable – symmetrical, elegant, designed to impress. The stories behind them are considerably less orderly.

For centuries, the Venetian nobility used these villas as summer retreats. They brought their artists, their debts, their feuds, and their eccentricities. Some of it became part of history. Most of it didn’t.

This cycling game follows the Brenta river between Oriago and Dolo, stopping at the villas where the real stories happened – the ones that didn’t make it into the guidebooks. To move forward, you’ll need to observe, think, and look more carefully than the people cycling past you.

A fully flat route along the Brenta river between Oriago and Dolo, with stops at the most fascinating villas on the Riviera. To progress, you’ll need to observe, think, and spot the hidden details that passing tourists never notice.

The game takes around 4 to 4.5 hours at a relaxed pace, not counting stops – and the route is full of great places to take a break.

What you need: a fully charged phone, an internet connection, and a bike with a handlebar phone mount.

Why it’s not your typical guided tour

Total freedom: you start when you want with your own bike and go at your own pace. If you need one, you can hire a bike or e-bike right at the starting point.

The route mixes aristocratic villas and small historic villages you won’t find on the usual itineraries. Centuries of secrets, scandals, and Venetian legends, hidden behind the most elegant facades in the Veneto.

By the end, you’ll look at the Riviera del Brenta differently. The stories tend to stay with you.

Who it’s for

Works well for families, couples, and groups of friends who want to combine sport, fresh air, and culture in an original way. Suitable for anyone who can ride a bike on flat terrain.

FAQ

Is this a self-guided experience?

Yes, everything runs through a web app on your smartphone, with no guide and no group to keep up with. Think of it as part cycling adventure, part cultural discovery – all at once.

What do I need to play?

A fully charged phone, an internet connection, and a bike with a handlebar phone mount. Bring some water too, especially in summer, and set off in the morning so you have the whole day ahead.

Do I need to download an app?

Not for the game: just open the link on your phone and you’re ready. For cycling navigation you will need a navigation app (like Komoot, Wikiloc, or Strava) to load the GPX track included with your purchase.

How difficult is it?

Physically: a fully flat route of around 30km, suitable for almost everyone. The puzzles vary between observation and logical thinking – no specialist knowledge required, and there are hints if you get stuck.

Is it suitable for children?

It works well for families with children old enough to manage 30km on a bike independently. Younger children are welcome but may need help with some of the puzzles.

Can I pause and continue later?

Yes, you can take breaks whenever you want – your progress saves automatically. You can also design your day however suits you best: rush through it as an intense afternoon adventure, or slow down for lunch, a villa visit, and a leisurely explore. The 4–4.5 hour duration is just a guide – you control the pace.

Do I need two phones?

No, but it’s convenient if you have them. While cycling, it helps to have one phone showing the GPX map (Komoot, Wikiloc, or Strava) and another with the game open – so you don’t have to keep switching between apps. If you’re playing solo, switching between the two is no problem at all.

What if it rains?

The route isn’t recommended in wet weather. Check the forecast before you head out and pick a good day – the Riviera del Brenta deserves the sunshine.

How do I receive the game?

You buy the game through Gumroad. Once the purchase is complete, you’ll find the game link and GPX track on the confirmation page – and they remain in your Gumroad account, accessible at any time.
